The collaborative works of "West Meets East" came about as a result of my search to find a connection within the scholastic art community in Romania. My interest in winning a Fulbright Scholarship depended upon my making these connections, and I was most fortunate when I came into contact with Daniela Frumuseanu.
Finding a collaborative partner from a distant land is an amazing experience. Our backgrounds and history are as vastly different as the nature of our materials yet we find that these differences lead us down a familiar path; one of a mutual love and respect for materials and process. Our cultural exchange is one that is rich with color, texture, and form.
Our collaboration culminated into a traveling exhibition. Starting in October 2010, the books were first exhibited in the gallery at the Community College of Rhode Island, Warwick. The next showing was at the University of Art in Bucharest, Romaina. The next two stops are in Iasi, Romania, at the Gallery Tinitza, and at the House of the People gallery in Bucharest.
The books will travel indefinately.
